Marshall Faulk believes Rodgers has more talent behind him on the Jets than ever before in his career
Tom Horak-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers have moved on from Aaron Rodgers after trading him to the New York Jets. With the Jordan Love era underway in Green Bay, there are not many people who believe the Packers will compete in 2023. In fact, they have the worst odds of winning the NFC North of the four teams in the division. While the Packers are going into the season with many question marks, the Jets have high expectations from most analysts and fans. Indeed, they are a much better team with Rodgers under center. However, one Hall of Fame running back recently made a ridiculous claim about how good they will be.

Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk recently appeared on The Rich Eisen Show and was asked for his take on Jets’ fans believing their team could go to and win the Super Bowl this year. He responded:

“I think that A-Rod has a lot left in the tank and that his dedication to working with the young wide receivers in the offseason will lead to everything that this team, like what they started last year, before the debacle, before all the quarterback issues, here’s what I’m going to say. I’m going to tell you this one thing: The Jets right now, and the guys that they have on offense, on this team, might be better, at least talent-wise, that Aaron Rodgers ever played on when he was in Green Bay.”

“I don’t think he’s ever had this collection of talent. When you look at what he has, and I have to say Breece Hall coming back healthy, I look at this team and I’m like ‘Wow!’ This is probably the best collection of talent that he’s ever had.”

Faulk goes onto to say that the Packers did not have guys that everyone knew everything about. He used Davante Adams as an example, explaining that Adams was not at the same level as Garrett Wilson when he came out of college. He also said no one knew the offensive linemen would be as good as they were when Green Bay drafted them.

This is really a bold and ridiculous statement from the Hall of Famer. How easily he forgot that the Packers won the Super Bowl with a wide receiving core of Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Donald Driver, and James Jones. Does he not remember that the 2011 Packers won 15 games on the strength of their offense, which included rookie wide receiver Randall Cobb? And we have not even talked about the super athletic JerMichael Finley, who was as good a tight end as any when he was healthy.

Look, on paper, the Jets will be a very good team in 2023. There is no denying it. But to say that the 2023 Jets are better than any team that Aaron Rodgers ever played on in 15 years as a starting quarterback in Green Bay shows a recency bias that is unparalleled.

The Jets, the New York media, and Rodgers are all in the honeymoon stage right now. We’ll see how long that will last. Just wait until Wilson runs the wrong route or drops a pass and Rodgers refuses to throw to him for the rest of the game. We’ll see how well things are going then.
