Lions host Tom Kennedy for free agent visit
Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK

I'm sure Detroit Lions fans will love to hear this news. There's something about an underdog receiver that this team just loves. Tom Kennedy was a part of the Lions team in one way or another from 2019 to this summer. Now he could be coming back.

Kennedy went down with a bad arm injury during training camp and the Lions wound up waiving him with an injury settlement in August. He's been out ever since.

That absence from football might not last too much longer. The Lions brought Kennedy in for a free agent visit on Wednesday. No signing has happened or been announced just yet, but there is likely a decent shot that it happens considering that Kennedy has such a long recent history with the Lions and the team seems to be a big fan of him.

If Kennedy is brought back, he's likely to be signed to the Lions practice squad and he'll likely remain there unless the Lions have an injury or want to bring him up for special teams reasons.  The only thing that could hold this back is that the Lions like Dylan Drummond and he's a guy that could be built up and could play a bigger role next year. Does the team feel it has one too many receivers? We'll see where this goes by Saturday at the latest.
