LBU Great to be Honorary Captain Saturday, per Franklin

One of the best linebackers in the history of the school known as “Linebacker University” will be one of Penn State football’s honorary captains for Saturday’s showdown against Michigan.

Sean Lee, who played at PSU from 2005-2009, will be one of the honorary captains, James Franklin announced at the start of his Michigan-week Tuesday presser.

Lee had a fantastic career at Penn State and carried that over into the NFL, where he played 10 seasons, all for the Dallas Cowboys. At PSU, Lee was part of a golden age at LBU, which also featured All-Americans Paul Posluszny and Dan Conner. Posluszny was an honorary captain the last time Michigan came to Beaver Stadium in 2021. Connor is a defensive analyst at his alma mater.

The day Posluzsny was Penn State’s honorary captain, the team lost to Michigan, 21-17. Lee will hope his alma mater has more success Saturday than it had against Michigan that day and during last year’s game.

Over Lee’s time at Penn State, the team went 2-3 against Michigan. In Lee’s last season at Penn State, the team beat Michigan in Ann Arbor, which can previously hadn’t been done since 1996. The most notable Penn State-Michigan game in Lee’s era took place in 2005, when Michigan ended Penn State’s dreams of an undefeated season and, subsequently, a national championship, with a last-second touchdown pass from Chad Henne to Mario Manningham.

This coming meeting could go down as one of the more notable in the series, which dates back to when Penn State started playing on the Big Ten in 1993. PSU needs to win to keep its Big Ten and national title hopes alive.
