Joe Judge 'would run through a brick wall' for Giants' Daniel Jones

Shortly after he was fired by the New York Giants this past January, Joe Judge offered high praise for quarterback Daniel Jones. 

As Michael Blinn shared for the New York Post, Fox Sports personality Peter Schrager told the Judge-Jones story during a recent edition of the "Pardon My Take" podcast. 

"He gets fired, everyone’s so happy, doing flips, and I do this thing where I’ll call the coach or text him and be like 'Hey, if there’s anything I can do,'" Schrager explained about his interaction with Judge. "I can’t do s---, 'If there’s anything I can do, put in a good word with another team…' They don’t need my help, but it’s a gesture. 

"He calls me right away and he goes, 'Here’s what you can do' — I love this about Joe Judge and Giants fans might be ready to run through a wall for this — 'This is what you can do. Next time you or your co-hosts want to s--- all over Daniel Jones, or say that they know Jones is terrible, or this or that, know that Daniel Jones is tough as s---, comes prepared, and I would run through a brick wall for that guy.'" 

The Giants selected Jones with a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, less than a full year before the organization hired Judge to be the head coach. Judge accumulated an overall record of 10-23 and was public enemy No. 1 in the eyes of many Giants fans before he was shown the door following the 2021 season. 

Schrager added that Judge refused to blast former Giants general manager Dave Gettleman or co-owner John Mara. Instead, Judge wanted Schrager to share that Jones "is tough and was put in a tough spot" early in his NFL career. 

Things have improved for Jones under Giants first-year general manager Joe Schoen and first-year head coach Brian Daboll. New York is 7-2 heading into Sunday's home game against the 3-6 Detroit Lions, and Jones is on track to receive a pay increase via a new contract with the Giants, the franchise tag, or free agency if New York lets the 25-year-old on an expiring contract become available when the new league year opens in March 2023. 

Meanwhile, Judge is an offensive assistant with the New England Patriots.
