Joe Burrow's difficult Super Bowl summed up by one key stat

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow had a tough time staying on his feet during Super Bowl LVI, and one key stat bears that out.

Burrow was sacked seven times by the Los Angeles Rams during Sunday’s game, and that does not include several other quarterback hits. That tied the record for most sacks taken in one Super Bowl.

Of course, as it usually is, this was hardly Burrow’s fault. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, the Bengals posted a 14 percent pass block win rate in the game, which marks the worst in any NFL game all season.

Bengals finished with a 14% pass block win rate, the worst by any team in any game this season.

Essentially, this means the Rams were winning in the defensive trenches on almost nine out of ten plays. Even when Burrow wasn’t sacked, he was pressured or hurried, and hardly had time to make his reads or survey his options. In the end, it even got Burrow hurt late in the game.

Some of this is certainly down to the Bengals’ offensive line. However, they were also up against a very motivated Aaron Donald, who was more or less unblockable.
