Jets rookie QB Zach Wilson 'felt comfortable' in preseason debut

The New York Jets are hoping Zach Wilson will be their quarterback of the future after a difficult few years with former first-round pick Sam Darnold.

Wilson made his much-anticipated preseason debut Saturday against the New York Giants and completed six of nine passes for 63 yards in a 12-7 win.

After the game, the BYU product said he felt comfortable in his debut because New York's coaches prepared him well for the moment.

"I felt comfortable," Wilson said, via the team's website. "I know the guys around us felt comfortable. I think our coaches prepared us for it. I think we felt good going out there."

The Jets selected Wilson second overall in this year's draft. He is likely set for more playing time against the Green Bay Packers next weekend as New York looks to get him prepared for a Week 1 tilt with the Carolina Panthers.

Wilson said earlier this summer that he didn't expect to be handed the starting role, but the Jets have only Mike White and James Morgan as their other quarterbacks, so Wilson almost certainly has the job.
