Jets' Robert Saleh addresses Aaron Rodgers playing beyond 2023

Signs continue to point to Aaron Rodgers serving as the New York Jets' starting quarterback beyond the 2023 NFL season. 

"I'd be shocked if he doesn’t play multiple years," Jets head coach Robert Saleh said about Rodgers while speaking with reporters on Friday, per Chris Rosvoglou of The Spun. "I mean, he looks like a little kid out there." 

Rodgers, who turns 40 years old this coming December and teased as recently as this past January that he could walk away from the millions of dollars still attached to his contract, initially declined during his introductory Jets news conference to commit to playing past the upcoming season. The future Hall of Famer later said joining the Jets "isn’t a one-and-done in my mind," and he told reporters Thursday that the team's roster is "not just a one-year thing where you can be competitive." 

Saleh was sure to note he doesn't yet need Rodgers to make any promises about his future.

"I don't think he needs to [commit to another year from now]," Saleh added. "I don't want to back him into a corner and make him commit to something like that." 

Meanwhile, Daniel Chavkin of Sports Illustrated shared that Rodgers indicated during an ESPN New York appearance that he intends to be an active player at this time next year. 

"The Jets gave up a lot for me, so to play just one year would be a disservice," Rodgers said during the conversation that aired Friday morning. "Now if that one year turns out to be a magical year, who knows?"
