Jets DE Vinny Curry out for season after being diagnosed with rare blood disorder

New York Jets defensive end Vinny Curry will miss the entire 2021 season after being diagnosed with a rare blood disorder, he announced via Twitter Wednesday.

The discovery of the blood disorder led to the removal of his spleen. Doctors initially thought he could return to the field in September. However, Curry developed blood clots and had to go on blood thinners that will force him to avoid physical contact for up to six months.

According to USA Today Sports, Curry attended Wednesday's joint practice with the Eagles and "seemed to be in good spirits." He was even trash-talking his former teammates, USA Today adds.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters Wednesday that the franchise is "blessed that we were able to find some things that were going unnoticed."

Curry signed with the Jets in March after eight years with the Philadelphia Eagles and a year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Last season with the Eagles, the 33-year-old recorded three sacks, one fumble recovery, 16 tackles, three tackles for a loss and 10 quarterback hits in 11 games.
