Jaguars Reportedly Set to Interview Ex-Ravens, Giants DC Wink Martindale For Coordinator
USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars are adding another name to the defensive coordinator search.

According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the Jaguars are set to speak to former New York Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale for their defensive coordinator vacancy.

Martindale, who lives in Florida, was the Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator from 2018-2021 after serving as their linebackers coach from 2012-2017. In his four years as defensive coordinator, they finished No. 2 in scoring defense twice, No. 3, and then No. 19 in his last season.

The Giants' defense improved in scoring from No. 23 to No. 17 in Martindale's first season in 2022, but they fell to No. 26 in 2023. Martindale and the Giants parted ways earlier this week after Martindale reportedly had a falling out with head coach Brian Daboll, leading to his availability.

Considering Martindale's reputation as one of the most aggressive and respected defensive minds in the league, it is unlikely the Jaguars are going to be the only team taking a look at the former coordinator. Martindale is one of eight coaches so far who the Jaguars have been tied to during the last week.

The Jaguars are looking for a new defensive coordinator after firing former coordinator Mike Caldwell on Monday night. The Jaguars also fired seven other defensive assistants, leaving only three of Pederson's 11 defensive staff members left.

The Jaguars finished the 2023 season ranked No. 17 in points per game, No. 22 in yards per game, No. 13 in EPA/Play allowed and No. 12 in Success Rate allowed.
