Isaiah Buggs Challenged Detroit Lions Defensive Line

Detroit Lions defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs remained patient and waited for his next opportunity to aid Aaron Glenn's defense. 

While the veteran was not pleased to be inactive the first two weeks of the season, he vowed to the coaches that he would get back to work and grind to earn back an opportunity to secure more playing time. 

Against the Falcons, Buggs returned and was part of one of the most dominant defensive performances showcased at Ford Field. 

Detroit's defense recorded seven sacks, while only giving up six total points. 

"It was great. It was a great feeling, man. I was glad to be back, Buggs told All Lions after Detroit's 20-6 win. "And I'm glad that the coaching staff and Dan and everybody in this organization, they trust me. And it was definitely glad to be back, man. The atmosphere was great, and I was just happy to be back all week. 

Detroit's defensive line was quite frustrated, especially after a disappointing performance against the Seahawks. 

Buggs indicated he challenged the defensive line to step up this week.

"I challenged the whole D-line this week to 'Let's be great. And let's put that s**t on display.' Excuse my language. And we did. Everybody always was talking about how the offensive run game for the Atlanta Falcons, how great they are running the ball. And I was like, 'Hey, why don't they talk about us. Let's stop the run," said Buggs. "Let's be great. Let's get it done and let's get our blocks. Let's stay in our gaps and let's shut it down. And that's what we did."

Moving forward, Detroit's defense wants to be consistent in their efforts to play hungry and not allow opponents to consistently win one-on-one battles. 

"We always had it in us to be dominant up front and we got to do a better job to be consistent with this week in and week out," Buggs explained. "And every day we step in that building, man, we got to go to work. We got to go to work, man. We got to continue to be dominant.

"Every time we step on the field as a defensive line unit, as the defensive unit, we feel like we could be the best on the field. I really go by that phrase, 'Defense wins championships and offense sells tickets.' We got a hell of an offense. We got a hell of a defense, man," Buggs continued. "Each day we are put putting it together, putting it together. Hopefully at the end of all this, it'll be all worth it for us. If we keep going, keep going as a defensive unit, we'll be good."
