Is Bills UDFA Tyrell Shavers a Hidden Gem?

Without Kumerow or Jones, there is a huge void on special teams duties. The Bills usually like to keep their back-end players for that role; looking at their roster, there doesn’t seem to be a gunner on this roster. That leaves Tyrell Shavers with a great opportunity to make the roster or practice squad.

The Buffalo Bills already have a stacked WR group now as it is. With Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, Khalil Shakir, Justin Shorter, Trent Sherfield, and Deonte Harty as the projected top six, that would leave Shavers as the odd man out. Again, bringing special teams players up off the practice squad throughout the season is a possibility. We’ve seen teams like the New England Patriots do it with their kickers before.

Shavers likely won’t contribute too much on offense right away, unless we get another game like last year’s first Bills-Dolphins game. Considering Buffalo’s receiver room, Shavers would strictly be used for special teams.

Last year, teams were allowed to promote players from the practice squad up to three times in the regular season. This year should be no different, so after a while, the Buffalo Bills will need to have a backup plan.
