Indianapolis Colts Working Out Former Top 5 Pick At Wide Receiver
Katie Stratman-USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts offense has taken some blows over the past month. After Anthony Richardson went down with a season-ending injury a month ago, the wide receiver room got hit on Sunday. To potentially help this, the Colts are bringing in former top 5 pick Sammy Watkins for a workout.

Indianapolis Colts Working Out Sammy Watkins

Watkins was the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. After spending time in Buffalo, he has jumped around the league. Stints with the Rams, Chiefs, Ravens, and Packers have all ended similarly. He simply cannot stay on the field. Injuries have plagued his career but because of his talent and now veteran leadership, he is an attractive candidate for teams to bring in. It is just a workout and the team is likely trying to gauge how healthy Watkins is.

Little Downside

At this point for the Colts, there is little downside to bringing Watkins in. The worst-case scenario is that he doesn’t work out and the team is right back to where they started. The best-case scenario is that he has an impact on the players around him and can help the young team develop. The team should definitely temper expectations as Watkins has never been able to play a full season it seems but as of this point, the team only needs him for half a season which might work out well.

Will the Indianapolis Colts end up signing Sammy Watkins? At this point it is unclear but it is clear that they are looking for help at the wide receiver position.
