'If he was a female, we would’ve dated!' 49ers legend Jerry Rice cites ‘chemistry’ as the reason for picking Joe Montana over Steve Young
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Jerry Rice, the San Francisco 49ers legend, played with two elite quarterbacks, Joe Montana and Steve Young. Some players get the chance to play with some elite talents. However, very few like Rice have ever won Super Bowl rings with two elite quarterbacks.

The legendary wide receiver recently came on Keyshawn Johnson’s All Facts No Brakes podcast. Johnson asked Rice to pick between Montana and Young on the podcast. Jerry Rice felt the pressure and revealed Montana as the better of the two. Rice hilariously broke down the chemistry he had with Montana.

I played with two Hall-of-Famers. Two outstanding quarterbacks. And I will break this down for you real quick. Joe Montana and I had such chemistry man... If Joe was a female, we would have dated because of the chemistry. Jerry Rice via All Facts No Breaks podcast

Despite choosing Montana, Rice had only great things to say about Young. He called Young an outstanding quarterback. Jerry Rice won two Super Bowl rings playing as the main playmaker for Montana in the 1980s. Despite Montana leaving the 49ers in 1992, Rice quickly adapted to the play style of Steve Young. Together, they won Super Bowl XXIX. Rice caught 10 passes for 149 yards and three touchdowns with Young as the quarterback.

Rice respects both quarterbacks but felt his chemistry with Montana was better than the one he had with Young. Many consider Montana to be among the greatest quarterbacks in history. Hence, it was not a surprise when Rice picked Montana over Young. However, he made a shocking statement during the podcast episode with Keyshawn Johnson.

Jerry Rice shocks NFL fanbase with revelation of favorite team

It did not shock anyone when Jerry Rice picked between Steve Young and Joe Montana. However, he shocked the internet with his revelation about his favorite team in the NFL. Growing up, he had one team in his mind and that was not the San Francisco 49ers.

Then? The answer will astonish the NFL crowd. It was none other than the Dallas Cowboys. He wanted to be a part of the Cowboys in his early life, but destiny took him to their rivals.

It was the Dallas Cowboys, you know. I thought I was going to wear that star on my helmet and I thought I was going to get drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. But San Francisco traded with New England to get down to that 16th spot, and they picked me. Jerry Rice via All Facts No Breaks podcast

One has to understand the rivalry between the 49ers and the Cowboys in the 1990s. From 1993-96, the Cowboys won three Super Bowls and the 49ers won one. Moreover, they were the only two teams to represent the NFC during that period. Imagine the paradigm shift if Rice joined the Cowboys as he desired. This is another big ‘what if’ scenario as Rice’s contributions to the 49ers led them to the most successful period of the franchise. He could have had a similar with the Cowboys as well.
