Giants Signing RB Jashaun Corbin to Roster

A source confirms that the New York Giants are planning to poach running back Jashaun Corbin off the Carolina Panthers practice squad.

The Daily News was first with the report.

Corbin was originally signed with the Giants in 2022 as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M, where he attended after two years at Florida State. After signing, Corbin didn't make the 53-man roster but sat on the team's practice squad as the running backs ahead of him managed to stay healthy.

In two training camps with New York, including this past summer, Corbin showed enough of a skillset as both a runner and receiver out of the backfield with decent skill in pass protection to warrant a place with a team boasting a running back by committee approach.

This past preseason, Corbin rushed 16 times for 51 yards and one touchdown. He also added six receptions for 30 yards but did not make the 53-man roster. The Giants had hoped to add him to their practice squad following final roster cuts, but the Panthers swooped in with an offer, and he landed on their practice squad.

Corbin, 23 years old, spent the first six weeks of the 2023 regular season on the practice squad with the Panthers and was not elevated to the active roster.

The Giants currently have injuries to Gary Brightwell (ankle and hamstring) and Eric Gray (calf), injured in Sunday's win over the Washington Commanders. One of those two players (likely Brightwell) is expected to be placed on injured reserve to make room for Corbin, who is familiar with the Giants offense.
