Giants QB Mike Glennon cleared to start at Chargers; Jake Fromm will be backup

For at least one more weekend, veteran Mike Glennon will remain the starting quarterback of the New York Giants.

Per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post and others, Glennon has cleared the concussion protocol and will start for the 4-8 Giants this Sunday at the 7-5 Los Angeles Chargers. 2020 fifth-round draft pick Jake Fromm, signed off the practice squad of the Buffalo Bills ahead of last Sunday's loss at the Miami Dolphins, will serve as Glennon's backup.

Daniel Jones, Big Blue's standard QB1, is sidelined for the second straight game due to "structural damage" in his neck he may or may not have suffered in a win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 28. Rumors have suggested Jones won't play again this season, but head coach Joe Judge has repeatedly denied those claims and is allegedly planning on having the 2019 first-round draft pick back in the lineup for next Sunday's matchup against the first-place Dallas Cowboys.

Glennon completed 23-of-44 passes for 187 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the 20-9 defeat at Miami, and the 31-year-old clearly isn't New York's long-term answer at the position regardless of Jones' status beyond this Sunday. However, Fromm hasn't yet had two full weeks with the New York playbook and, thus, should stay a "break glass only in case of emergency" option against a postseason contender.
