Giants legend Eli Manning offers advice to Jets' Zach Wilson

New York Giants legend Eli Manning somewhat understands what current New York Jets starting quarterback Zach Wilson is experiencing this fall and offered some advice to the 24-year-old.

"He’s got to communicate with the coaches and say which plays he’s most comfortable with," Manning said about Wilson while speaking with Chris Rosvoglou of The Spun. "It’s a tough situation for sure. He’s a young kid trying to figure this out. The Jets can be a bit patient with him because they got a good defense, but they got to support him and rally around him. He’s getting hit at all angles from the media and everybody."

Wilson was benched by Jets head coach Robert Saleh on multiple occasions last season and was supposed to spend the 2023 campaign sitting and learning behind future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers then went down with a torn Achilles in Week 1, and Wilson failed to impress across his two starts that the Jets lost to fall to 1-2 ahead of this Sunday's prime-time home game versus the 2-1 Kansas City Chiefs.

Former Jets quarterbacks Boomer Esiason and Joe Namath are among individuals associated with the franchise who publicly declared following New York's 15-10 home loss to the New England Patriots this past Sunday that they've seen "enough" of Wilson playing for the club. Despite such protests and the fact that Wilson was recently booed by angry customers at MetLife Stadium, Saleh told reporters Monday the 2021 first-round draft pick is his "unquestioned quarterback" for at least the Week 4 matchup.

"...This offense was tailored around Aaron Rodgers," Manning added during the conversation. "They put in plays that Aaron was most familiar with and knew the best. Now, you got an offense that needs to be tailored around Zach Wilson."

Mike Vaccaro once noted for the New York Post how Manning was booed off the field following an awful performance in a home defeat against the Minnesota Vikings in November 2007. Manning then guided the Giants to a Super Bowl victory 70 days later and ultimately became one of the most beloved figures in the history of that franchise.

If nothing else, Wilson may want to consider giving Manning a call before this Sunday's matchup.
