This week, the Buffalo Bills announced the hirings of four outside coaches: Ronald Curry as QB Coach, Jahmile Addae as CB Coach, Christian Taylor as Defensive Quality Control Coach, and Matt Edwards as Assistant DL Coach. Curry fills the void left by Joe Brady and Addae comes to Buffalo to a CB position the Bills didn’t fill last year. So, let’s get to know these guys.
Curry came over from the New Orleans Saints, where he served as the QB Coach/Pass Game Coordinator. He was a former NFL WR for the Oakland Raiders, Detroit Lions, and St. Louis Rams. Curry rose through the coaching ranks with the Saints, joining the team in 2016 as an Offensive Assistant. He would become the team’s WR Coach from 2018-2021, before moving over to the QBs the last two seasons. Joe Brady worked with him when he was an Offensive Assistant with the Saints in 2017-2018.

Curry had interviewed for the Saints OC job this year, and had also interviewed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their OC position last off-season. Working with Josh Allen in Buffalo seems to be a fast track to a OC job, with Ken Dorsey and Joe Brady holding those roles this year. So Curry coming to Buffalo makes a lot of sense for him and the team, as it gives them another OC candidate should Brady eventually leave.
Another fascinating hire made on Wednesday. Addae comes to Buffalo after coaching the secondary at the University of Miami. Addae had coached at the college level since 2007, most recently on Georgia and Miami’s coaching staffs. He also has previous coordinator experience, as he was the co-DC for West Virginia back in 2020.
He takes over for John Butler who, after Addae’s hiring, agreed to part ways with the team. Butler had been a strong in-house candidate for the Bills DC job before Bobby Babich got the promotion.
This seems like a move for Kaiir Elam, as a last ditch effort to make their former first round pick a successful starter. Butler couldn’t get Kaiir Elam’s true potential to show. If you’re a draft nerd and want to connect the dots to a potential Bills draft pick, Addae coached Safety Kamren Kinchens at Miami. We all know Buffalo has a glaring hole at Safety now.
Since 2016, Jahmile Addae has been a CB/DB coach for Arizona ('16-'17), Minnesota ('18), West Virginia ('19-'20), Georgia ('21), and Miami ('22-'23).

Taylor was an interesting hire for Buffalo. A William & Mary alum, Taylor served as their OC/RB Coach for the last four seasons. He has been on the offensive side of the ball for the entirety of his coaching career. Now, Taylor is coaching the Bills defense. Buffalo now has three coaches on their staff from the college: Sean McDermott, Joe Brady, and Christian Taylor.
Edwards comes to Buffalo after spending the last two seasons as a Defensive Assistant/Pass Rush Specialist with the Las Vegas Raiders. Edwards worked with one of the best pass rushers in the league in Maxx Crosby, who produced back to back double digit sack seasons. He fills the role left by Marcus West, who was promoted to DL Coach.
