Eagles: Jason Kelce gets emotional over Lane Johnson's surprise
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce delivered quite the surprise announcement, alongside offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, to his fellow lineman Lane Johnson.

Kelce even choked up while doing it.

Every year a player from each NFL team is nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. It's a prestigious honor that recognizes a player's “excellence on and off the field."

While the nominees were just announced this week, Johnson found out back in October during a position group meeting and the Eagles released the emotional tape on Thursday.

"They told me about it a couple days ago," Kelce said. "And they said 'Hey, do you wanna talk about it or anything?' And I [bleep] said 'Yeah, I do wanna talk.' This award, a lot of times just goes to somebody who just gives a bunch of [explicit] money to charity and does a bunch of s--- out in the [bleep] open, right? That ain't [bleep] you. And we all know that."

Kelce continued, "But that doesn't take away what you mean to the guys in this room, in this building, these people. That's why they are [bleep] nominating you, because everybody finally [bleep] sees who you are. And when I think of a man, I think of somebody who weathers the ups and downs of life ... how you [bleep] move forward.

"You're doing better than I've ever seen. And it's so [bleep] awesome to see. And I know it ain't all been perfect all the time, but like there ain't a mother [bleep] in the NFL who represents that better than you. That's important for you to hear."

Johnson, 33, is easily the best active right tackle in the NFL. The former 2013 first-round pick is a huge reason for the Eagles' success and hasn't allowed a single sack in almost three straight seasons.

The winner of the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award will be announced on Feb. 8.
