Eagles DE Brandon Graham calls Patrick Mahomes 'definitely the GOAT'

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham said recently that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is "definitely the GOAT," days ahead of the team's Super Bowl LVII matchup.

The one-time Pro Bowler made the surprising claim while also saying that he'd like to repeat his Super Bowl LII strip sack of Tom Brady on Mahomes on Sunday.

"Man, getting a strip sack on him too, that'd be nice," Graham said, per ESPN's Tim McManus. "But we're going to have some fun, man. He's definitely the GOAT because he's already won one and you can see he's been here a lot of times already. And he's young."

While Mahomes certainly appears on track to be one of the all-time great quarterbacks, it's hard to believe that Graham already sees him as the "GOAT." Most would argue that the twice-retired Brady has that title locked up and if it's not the 45-year-old, then it's somebody already in the Hall of Fame (like Joe Montana).

Mahomes is about to make his third Super Bowl appearance -- having defeated the San Francisco 49ers during the 2019 season and losing to Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers the following year. Coming off of a regular season where he led the NFL in passing yards (5,250) for the first time and passing touchdowns (41) for the second time, the 27-year-old is a front-runner for his second MVP award.

By late Sunday night, Mahomes could become the first player in NFL to have won multiple league MVP and championships within his first six seasons. Brady (who didn't become the New England Patriots starting quarterback until his second year in the NFL), racked up three Super Bowl titles in his first five seasons and two Super Bowl MVPs, but didn't win his first regular season MVP until his eighth year (seventh season as a starter).

If Mahomes pulls off a trifecta in the next few days of winning the regular season MVP, Super Bowl MVP and championship game, he'll still trail Brady by one, three and five in those categories respectively. No. 15 seems to have as good a shot as anybody to surpass "TB12," but it's a bit premature to anoint him as the new "GOAT."
