Eagles' Dallas Goedert shares bold Jalen Hurts take

Tight end Dallas Goedert clearly believes his Philadelphia Eagles made the right call by paying quarterback Jalen Hurts the big bucks this offseason.

Per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Goedert said during an appearance on the "Pardon My Take" podcast he thinks only one quarterback should be ahead of Hurts in any power rankings this summer.

"I think Jalen has to be at the top," Goedert explained about such lists. "I think he should be top three, top two."

Hurts was a revelation throughout the 2022 campaign en route to guiding the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII, where they fell to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. According to ESPN stats, Hurts finished the regular season fourth among eligible players with a 66.4 adjusted QBR and a 101.6 passer rating. Across 15 games, he completed 66.5% of his pass attempts for 3,701 yards with 22 touchdowns and only six interceptions. He was also tied for second among all players with 13 rushing scores and fourth among quarterbacks with 760 yards on the ground.

Hurts and the Eagles agreed to a five-year contract extension reportedly worth up to $255M with $179.3M guaranteed in April.

Mahomes, meanwhile, earned regular-season and Super Bowl Most Valuable Player honors for the second time in his career. Understandably, Goedert didn't go so far as to say Hurts is the undisputed best quarterback in the NFL today.

"It’s hard to take anything away from Patrick," Goedert added during his comments. "You go down the list and there’s probably 10 quarterbacks that could be in the top five, depends on what fan base you are. But personally speaking, Jalen is top two."

Hurts may need to prove Goedert right this coming fall to show that the Eagles didn't make a mistake in signing a signal-caller they reportedly considered replacing with Deshaun Watson at some point after the 2021 season.
