Detroit Lions Sign Former New England Patriots Running Back To PS After David Montgomery Injury Update
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions added depth at running back Wednesday after head coach Dan Campbell provided a murky update on David Montgomery. Montgomery was carted off towards the end of the Lions’ loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.

Campbell told the media this week that Montgomery is day to day with a thigh injury. The Lions expect rookie Jahmyr Gibbs to pick up some of the slack while Montgomery recovers. However, Gibbs is undersized to be used as a full-time running back for the Lions.

The Detroit Lions sign Devine Ozigbo

According to Aaron Wilson with KPRC, the Lions added depth at running back this week by signing Devine Ozigbo to the practice squad Wednesday.

Ozigbo is a UDFA initially signed by the New Orleans Saints in 2019. He’s spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, and Denver Broncos. Ozigbo has appeared in 25 games and has 29 rushing yards and 75 receiving yards during his NFL career.

The Lions signed Ozigbo during training camp this year but cut him towards the end of August. He’s getting another chance in Detroit after Montgomery’s injury.
