Darnell Savage's versatility takes Packers defense to another level

Entering his fourth year in the NFL, Green Bay Packers safety Darnell Savage is one of the more dangerous defenders in the league. The former Maryland Terp star has started each of his 46 career games in the league as the ballhawk to Adrian Amos' boomstick in center field for defensive coordinator Joe Barry.

Savage's ability to take the ball away and make opposing quarterbacks hold on to the ball for a little while longer so the pass rush can get to him sets him apart from most of the league's defensive backs.

Over his first three seasons in the NFL, No. 26 has recorded at least two interceptions every year, and his 4.3 speed really shows on tape. He can run from one side of the field to the other in the blink of an eye, a skill that's helped him record eight interceptions and defend 26 passes in his short career.

Taking the ball away isn't his only skill, however, and his versatility makes him an elite weapon on defense. If need be, he can be sent on the blitz, evidenced by his 31 career blitzes. It's helped result in six career tackles for loss, six career QB pressures, three career QB hurries, two career QB knockdowns and one sack in his young career.

It's clear he can play all over the field and be a form of a Swiss Army Knife for Green Bay's top 10 defense.

Savage's versatility and ability to find the ball are why he has the potential to have a career year for a possible Super Bowl defense that has one of the most dynamic defensive back groups in the entire league.
