Dallas Cowboys Reportedly Never Reached Out To Derrick Henry
George Walker IV / Tennessean.com / USA TODAY NETWORK

One of the NFL’s best running backs over the last few years, Derrick Henry, was on the move this offseason. His contract expired with the Tennessee Titans, allowing him to hit free agency and he opted to take his talents elsewhere.

Derrick Henry landed with the Baltimore Ravens, providing their backfield with a reliable option for early down work. Given how strong the Ravens’ running game has been in recent years even with their running backs not staying healthy, people are excited to see what the Alabama product can do there.

However, had it been up to Derrick Henry, Baltimore isn’t where he would have landed. While making an appearance on The Pivot podcast, he revealed that it was the Dallas Cowboys he was hoping to land with this offseason.

He believes that signing with the Cowboys would have been the perfect situation for him. Derrick Henry isn’t alone in that line of thinking, as many people thought landing in Dallas was ideal. Dallas didn’t believe so as they didn’t even reach out to him during free agency.

“They ain’t holla at me at all. It would’ve been crazy. I thought it’d been some type of reach out, some type of talks or whatever. They never reached out, you know what I’m saying? I don’t really know too much about their organization. All I know is what I hear. I was talking to my agent. They weren’t really interested. It is what it is. Like I said earlier, I’m gonna be where I’m gonna be, and I feel like Baltimore was the perfect spot,” Henry said. (H/T JPAFootball on X)

Only time will tell if the Cowboys made a mistake in not pursuing Derrick Henry. While his production has slipped in recent seasons, with his yards per game average dropping three seasons in a row, he looks to have something left in the tank.

Last season, he still ran for 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns as the workhorse back in Tennessee. The Ravens are certainly happy that the Cowboys didn’t want him, as they are ecstatic to have him in the fold in Baltimore.

The combination of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry is going to keep defensive coordinators up at night. They are both elite runners, as offensive coordinator Todd Monken is likely hard at work scheming up plays to take advantage of their unique skill sets.
