Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott sends a simple yet powerful message after reuniting with Dallas
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys got Ezekiel Elliott back on a one-year deal and it didn't take long for the former No. 4 overall pick of the franchise to send a loud message to the fanbase.

In a simple yet powerful message, Elliott posted on Twitter/X: "RUN IT BACK."

You see, it's not uncommon for players to immediately take to social media to send these kind of messages but here's the thing about Elliott's case in particular: You just know he's ecstatic about returning to Dallas.

When Elliott was let go by the Cowboys in 2023, there's no question it was 90% due to the financials. Don't get me wrong, the production has declined and there's no arguing with a stat sheet. But the main problem last year when the team was confident in moving forward with Tony Pollard was Elliott's high salary which at that point didn't make sense.

The Cowboys had to move on.

Clearly, however, the locker room loved 21 and 21 loved his team. Quarterback Dak Prescott, who calls Zeke a brother, went as far as claiming he was hurt and saying "I can't imagine taking the field without him," mentioning he had grown up with him as men, let alone as players.

So when Zeke hits send on a "run it back" tweet, let's be honest. It hits a little different. This is a guy who wants to play in Dallas and that wants to rock that Star once again while playing alongside his brother.

Should fans measure expectations? Absolutely, Elliott is unlikely to start if Rico Dowdle stays healthy and the Cowboys will likely approach things with a running back by committee mindset. But it feels nice to have Zeke back on the team.
