Cowboys Could Trade DL Neville Gallimore To Packers
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

One of the areas that people believed the Green Bay Packers needed to address coming into the offseason was in the trenches defensively. In free agency, the Packers saw veterans Dean Lowry and Jarran Reed depart, opening up more than 1,000 snaps.

Given the salary cap restraints the team had, no veterans were signed in free agency to replace them. Instead, the Packers were going to rely upon internal improvements and whichever players they added during the 2023 NFL Draft.

Throughout training camp, this was a unit that surprised a lot of people. Kenny Clark remains a stalwart on the defensive line and he will be surrounded by young talent looking to make a name for themselves.

The most prominent name in that group is Devonte Wyatt. A first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Wyatt is primed for a Year 2 breakout. TJ Slaton has also shown a lot of improvement this offseason and the rookie class looks to have provided the team with instant contributors in Karl Brooks and Colby Wooden.

However, that is a lot of youth and inexperience to rely on. If the Packers wanted to add someone who has played a little more in the NFL, Neville Gallimore of the Dallas Cowboys could pique their interest. In the opinion of Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report, trading Gallimore to the Packers is a move that Dallas should pursue.

Gallimore could lose out in the numbers game on the Cowboys’ roster, where they have a ton of depth along the defensive line. Some players are going to have to be on the move and the Cowboys would assuredly prefer trading them away and receiving some value in return instead of cutting them for nothing.

The Packers also have someone in their front office who is familiar with Gallimore. Rob Davis, now an executive in the Green Bay front office, was an assistant head coach on the Cowboys when he was drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Still only 26, Gallimore is someone who fits the current timeline of the Packers should they want to bring in more defensive line depth. While the idea makes sense that Ballentine suggested, Green Bay seems comfortable going with their own young guys and developing them in 2023.
