Cowboys are preparing to part ways with this long-time starter

Tyron Smith has been a mainstay on the Dallas Cowboys offensive line since joining the team in the 2011 NFL Draft. But after 13 years it seems both parties are ready for a fresh start, as Smith is unlikely to return to the Cowboys when free agency begins later this month.

That report comes from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on Saturday.

When healthy, Smith was one of the best and most effective offensive tackles in the NFL, especially during his peak years. He was named to eight Pro Bowls, was a two-time first-team All-Pro and a two team second-team All-Pro, including during the 2023 season.

Injuries really started to take their toll on Smith in recent years, however, as he was limited to just 30 games over the past four seasons.

Even with that Smith would still figure to have a robust market in free agency just because of how valuable his position is and how good he has been throughout his career.

It also makes the Cowboys a heavy favorite to target offensive tackle with the No. 24 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Georgia's Amarius Mims and Alabama's JC Latham could be potential picks at that spot.
