Could the Cowboys trade Amari Cooper?

The Dallas Cowboys had themselves a big week. After more than a year of back and forth with quarterback Dak Prescott and his representation, the organization agreed to sign the 27-year-old to a four-year, $160 million deal.

With the quarterback position now secure, the front office can shift its attention to more pressing matters.

And considering how poorly Dallas played in 2020, there are a lot of holes that need to be plugged.

Considering its size, Prescott’s new contract will have massive ramifications for the Cowboys.

According to Bleacher Report NFL insider Brad Gagnon, one of them might be a trade involving wide receiver Amani Cooper.

“They likely realize they need to spread the wealth, and a Cooper trade would give them a tremendous opportunity to do exactly that,” he wrote.

“Cooper, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb all scored five touchdowns while going over 800 yards and averaging at least 8.0 yards per target in 2020, but Gallup and Lamb are a hell of a lot cheaper. Other teams will value Cooper far more than Dallas needs to because of the presence of Gallup and Lamb, and the Cowboys can create $14 million in cap space by trading the soon-to-be 27-year-old.”

Considering how Cooper handles himself in certain high-pressure situations, a lack of faith in him from the Cowboys wouldn’t be a huge shock. He has previously been linked to the Denver Broncos and Philadelphia Eagles as potential destinations, so if Dallas does move him, don’t be surprised if he ends up with one of those two teams.
