Chiefs urged to sign longtime superstar defender
Ndamukong Suh Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs finally provided defensive lineman Chris Jones with a new contract, ending his holdout and getting him back on the field for the Chiefs’ Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

While the return of Jones is obviously a major help for Kansas City’s defense, the club could still use some help along its defensive interior even with the presence of Jones.

Fortunately, the Chiefs have plenty of time between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline to add some pieces, but they might also want to explore some current free agents.

Take Ndamukong Suh, for example.

Bleacher Report suggests that Kansas City should bring Suh aboard to help bolster its defensive line. Suh was last seen playing for the Philadelphia Eagles last season, logging 10 tackles and a sack in eight games.

Yes, Suh is 36 years old, but he could still provide some help for the Chiefs’ thin defensive front. Obviously, Suh is a far cry from his former Pro Bowl self, but it’s hard to imagine that taking a flier on him would hurt.

Suh, who played his collegiate football at the University of Nebraska, was originally selected by the Detroit Lions with the second overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.

In five seasons with the Lions, Suh made four trips to the Pro Bowl and earned three First Team All-Pro selections. He also won Defensive Rookie of the Year after racking up 66 tackles, 10 sacks and an interception in his first season. Oddly enough, that ended up being the most productive year of Suh’s career.

The Portland, Ore., native then spent three seasons with the Miami Dolphins before bouncing around between the Los Angeles Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and, most recently, the Eagles.

The Chiefs have gotten off to a 1-1 start and will host the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
