Cam Sims Could Blossom With Raiders
USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders added a number of new faces to their roster in free agency and through the draft, in order to compete in the AFC West and get back to the playoffs.

One of the reasons they did this is because Coach Josh McDaniels and General Manager Dave Ziegler wanted to add players who fit the vision that they see for the team. They want to recapture the success they had elsewhere.

One of the players they added was big bodied wide receiver Cam Sims, signing him to a one-year deal from the Washington Commanders. Sims has never posted big time numbers like some receivers around the league, but has made an impact as a third or fourth receiver, and on special teams as well.

The Raiders brought in Sims after losing Mack Hollins in free agency to the Atlanta Falcons. Hollins and Sims are similar builds and play similar roles, so Sims’ can slide in seamlessly to replace Hollins in Las Vegas.

Sims’ best career years came in 2020 and 2021 when he posted 71 catches for 688 yards and three touchdowns. He had always played behind players like Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel and others, but now gets a chance to see more targets come his way with the Raiders.

Cam Sims is 6-5, 220 pounds and can be used in a number of ways in the passing game. He opens up a new dynamic and should make life easier for Jimmy Garoppolo.
