Buffalo Bills Sign Intriguing Veteran Defensive Lineman
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills have signed veteran defensive lineman Linval Joseph, according to the team’s official X account. As a corresponding move, the Bills have placed cornerback Kaiir Elam on the injured reserve list.

Joseph last played for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022. He signed with the club in mid-November and made eight starts, logging 20 tackles and a half of a sack. He also recovered a key fumble during the Eagles’ NFC Championship Game win over the San Francisco 49ers.

The 35-year-old, who played his collegiate football at East Carolina, was originally selected by the New York Giants in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Joseph spent the first four years of his career with the Giants and developed into a stalwart along the team’s defensive front, with his best season coming in 2012 when he racked up 59 tackles, four sacks, a fumble and two fumble recoveries.

He then went on to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, where he proceeded to reside from 2014 through 2019. During that time, Joseph made back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances in 2016 and 2017 and established himself as one of the better interior defensive linemen in football.

After his tenure with the Vikings, Joseph spent a couple of years with the Los Angeles Chargers and was productive before eventually joining Philadelphia.

Joseph has also been a durable player throughout his NFL career, playing six full campaigns.

The Virgin Islands native may not be the same force he was several years ago, but he should certainly be of help to a Bills defense that ranks a rather disappointing 13th in the league this season.

Buffalo is 5-3 and will take on the surging Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday.
