Buccaneers’ Nelson’s Contract Details
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have re-signed outside linebacker Anthony Nelson. The original report was of a two-year deal for Nelson. The details are a little more clear now via click2houston.com’s Aaron Wilson.

Via Wilson,
“Buccaneers Anthony Nelson has option years 2024 to 2027 to be optioned prior to the last year of the 2023 league year, 2025-2027 voids if on roster 23rd day before first day of 2025 league year”

Via Fox Sports Greg Auman,
“Anthony Nelson deal is complicated. Three void years, so his 2023 cap number is just $1.96 million. There’s an option for 2024, so Bucs could opt out for one year, $5.5 million.”

Void years explained,

“Void years are dummy seasons added to the end of the contract. A signing bonus is pro-rated over all the remaining years of a deal up to five years, so by adding years, you can spread out the cap hit across more seasons.”

Anthony Nelson was drafted in the fourth-round of the 2019 NFL draft by the Buccaneers. Nelson has recorded 94 tackles and 11.5 sacks in his first four years in the league.
