Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy defends Russell Wilson in series of tweets

It's been a rough season on and off the field for Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson. One of his go-to wide receivers made his best effort on Twitter Thursday to stand up for the much-beleaguered signal-caller.

Jeudy leads the team in receiving yards (780) and receiving touchdowns (career-high six) this year despite missing two games. He ranks only behind Courtland Sutton in targets (86) and receptions (career-high 55).

As for Wilson, everyone from Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker to Wilson's former head coach Pete Carroll to Nickelodeon's Patrick Star to scores of Twitter users have taken shots at the Super Bowl XLVIII champion at some point this season.

Jeudy made it clear on Thursday that he would be having none of the criticism though.

It has been a very ugly season for Denver, who fired first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett following the team's Week 16 blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day. The Broncos were expected to contend for the AFC West crown this year but instead are in last place in the division at 4-11.

Injuries and questionable coaching decisions haven't helped Wilson's situation, but some of the blame certainly belongs to the nine-time Pro Bowler. In 13 games this season, Wilson has posted career lows in completion percentage (60.1%) and passing touchdowns (12) and has thrown for 3,019 passing yards and nine interceptions.

Denver will play the Kansas City Chiefs (12-3) on the road at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
