Broncos Sign Ex-Chiefs LB Ben Niemann to Practice Squad
USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos brought aboard a veteran defender with Super Bowl experience, signing former Chiefs linebacker Ben Niemann to the practice squad, the team announced Friday.

In a corresponding transaction, Denver waived wide receiver Michael Bandy from the practice squad.

Niemann, 28, has 79 games of NFL experience — including 21 starts — since entering the league as a 2018 undrafted free agent. The Iowa product spent his first four seasons in Kansas City and the 2022 campaign with the Arizona Cardinals, playing under new Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. He signed with the Tennessee Titans in April but was released at final cuts.

Across 1,968 career defensive snaps, Niemann has compiled 148 solo tackles, eight tackles for loss, six quarterback hits, three pass deflections, two sacks, and one forced fumble.

“He makes his plays when they come to him, he’s a very clear communicator,” Joseph said of Niemann last November, via USA Today's Cardinals Wire. “He’s pretty good in coverage, too.”

Niemann is the lone off-ball linebacker currently on the Broncos' taxi squad. The club is carrying four ILBs on its 53-man roster: Josey Jewell, Alex Singleton, Drew Sanders, and Justin Strnad.
