Bills WR Stefon Diggs offers concerning update on future

Buffalo Bills star wide receiver Stefon Diggs didn't necessarily commit his long-term future to the organization while speaking with reporters from the site of the Pro Bowl Games. 

"I feel like I take it day by day," Diggs said when he was asked if he was optimistic about the Bills' future, as shared by Stephen Holder of ESPN. "...But I got a great offseason in front of me to put a lot of work in and kind of build around what we got and what we're doing. I can't tell you what the future holds, but I'm still being me."

According to Holder, Diggs was then asked if he was prepared to move forward with the Bills following Buffalo's 27-24 divisional-round playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Jan. 21. 

"I'm ready to go no matter which way it goes," Diggs responded. 

Diggs was a constant subject of controversial headlines throughout the last NFL offseason due to his reported frustrations over wanting more of a voice in Buffalo's offensive planning. He was later named a team captain ahead of this past season before he produced a mixed bag of results across the campaign. 

While ESPN stats show Diggs finished the regular season ranked seventh in the NFL with 107 receptions, he failed to record a single touchdown after Week 12. His last 100-yard receiving day of the campaign occurred in Week 6, and he committed a costly fourth-quarter drop in the postseason loss to the Chiefs. 

"I've been in the league for a long time," Diggs said while discussing that Kansas City game. "Obviously, even as players, some plays we want back and some plays I want back, especially at the end of the game. But it's not much you can do about it. Now, here as you take a couple of weeks to decompress and think about it, things could have been better. But [I'm] kind of rolling with the punches and moving forward."

NFL insider Peter King of NBC Sports recently predicted that Bills general manager Brandon Beane will likely "want to do major surgery on Diggs' deal." Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, it includes a 2024 base salary of $18.5M that becomes fully guaranteed on March 17. Diggs' comments ahead of the weekend suggest he could be ready to give Beane some headaches as soon as next month.
