Bills QB Josh Allen not buying Tom Brady's retirement

There has been a healthy amount of skepticism surrounding Tom Brady’s recent retirement announcement, and one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks is among those who are not completely convinced.

Josh Allen was a guest on the “AP Pro Football Podcast” recently, and he discussed all the noteworthy retirements among his fellow quarterbacks over the past two years. The Buffalo Bills star was asked how he feels about “carrying that torch” now that Brady, Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger have retired. Allen said he is up to the challenge, but he made an interesting comment about Brady.

“I think it’s something that I’ve always wanted as a kid. The only thing I ever wanted to do was play quarterback in the NFL. It’s rewarding, in a sense, to be talked about like that. All I care about is winning football games, no matter how I do it. … And I’ll believe the Tom Brady retirement when he’s not playing next year. The jury’s still out on that for me.”

A lot of people feel the same way as Allen. Brady has brought some of that on himself, of course. The 44-year-old was asked on his “Let’s Go!” podcast two weeks ago if he will ever make a comeback, and he said you can “never say never.” He then spoke a bit more at length about it a week later.

Brady turns 45 in August. It seems unlikely that he would take a year off and then return when he’s 46. We also doubt he will “retire” for just a few months, though there have been some theories about him maneuvering his way to a new team.
