Bills Ex Returns Home to Spring Football, Signs With UFL Team

The Buffalo Bills' prized passing acquisition from the 2018 season is back in familiar territory ... well, one of them, anyway

The St. Louis Battlehawks of the United Football League announced the return of quarterback AJ McCarron to enter the weekend. McCarron was originally slated to be the Bills' starter in 2018 but then-rookie Josh Allen took over when a preseason shoulder injury took him out of commission. He was then traded to the Oakland Raiders shortly before the season kicked off.

McCarron, well-known for his storied collegiate career at the University of Alabama, spent most of this season in the Cincinnati Bengals' system and appeared in two games toward the end of the season. The fifth-round pick in the 2014 draft has developed a sterling reputation on the spring circuit, leading the rebooted XFL in passer rating, touchdown passes, and completion percentage as a Battlehawk en route to MVP honors last year.

St. Louis is one of four XFL teams embarking on a joint endeavor with four more from the United States Football League with the first merged UFL season set to kickoff on March 30.

Through 19 career games and four starts in the NFL, McCarron has gone 113 of 179 passing for 1,192 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. He's also rushed 22 times for 68 yards and one score.

McCarron has gone 2-2 as a starter, three coming with Cincinnati and one with the Houston Texans.
