When it was surprisingly announced that the Buffalo Bills would be signing standout Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Poona Ford on Tuesday, the initial thought was that the team brought him on with a deal much cheaper than he could've gotten elsewhere.

These suspicions have finally been confirmed. Per Spotrac, Ford's market value could have currently be worth around $9.2 million per year, but his one-year deal in Buffalo will be worth up to $3.25 million, per reports Friday from The Buffalo News.

The deal includes performance incentives for sacks and playing time. The Buffalo News broke down what the payout could look like for Ford if he meets certain statistical marks.

Playing time

- $100K for 56 percent of defensive snaps

- $200K for 60 percent of snaps

- $400K for 65 percent of snaps

Sacks

- $100K for four sacks

- $250K for five sacks

- $600K for six sacks

The Bills win big by adding a player of Ford's talent on a bargain. While being consistently available over the past few seasons, he's also totaled 182 tackles, 7.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and four passes defended in 76 career games.

He'll need to have one of the better seasons of his career if he wants to capitalize on some of these incentives. More time on the field means an increased chance at boosting those sacks numbers, meaning Ford could knock out two birds with one stone. Doing this will also help the Bills get closer to their championship goals, which was a major reason he signed for less money.

"One of the top free agents still available, Ford turned down more money elsewhere to try to win a ring in Buffalo," NFL Network's Tom Pelissero wrote. "A big (literally) post-draft addition for Sean McDermott’s defense."

The Bills are adding a true weapon to a defensive front that already features Von Miller and Greg Rousseau, providing opposing offenses with some scary sights to deal with.
