Bears sign veteran OT Riley Reiff to one-year deal

The Chicago Bears added veteran offensive tackle Riley Reiff, general manager Ryan Poles announced in a press conference Tuesday. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Reiff signed a one-year deal with the team worth as much as $12.5 million.

Reiff, 33, was the Detroit Lions' first-round pick in 2012 and played five seasons with the team before joining the Minnesota Vikings on a five-year, $58.75 million deal. He was released by Minnesota in 2021 and joined the Cincinnati Bengals on a one-year contract.

In his only season with the Bengals, Reiff allowed just four sacks and committed one penalty in 12 games before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in December. Without the veteran right tackle, Cincinnati struggled to stop pass rushers in the postseason, allowing Joe Burrow to be sacked 19 times in four playoff games, including seven times in Super Bowl LVI.

The Bears have been on the hunt for offensive line help and added former Los Angeles Chargers starter Michael Schofield on Monday.

Last season, Chicago quarterback Justin Fields was sacked on an NFL-leading 11.8 percent of his drop backs in his rookie year. The Bears drafted three offensive linemen in the last three rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft.
