Bears Receive the Expected Total of Compensatory Picks
USA TODAY

The league released compensatory draft picks for the 2024 NFL draft and as expected the Bears received none.

The picks are awarded based on a formula revolving around lost players to free agency. The Bears are seeing the fruits of their poor drafting during the Ryan Pace era still impacting them, as the quality players who would have been leaving as free agents are the ones who would have determined the comp picks. There weren't enough of them.

The only team from the NFC North to get any compensatory picks was Green Bay. The Packers got a fifth-rounder (No. 168 overall), a sixth-rounder (No. 219) and a seventh-rounder (No. 255).

The 49ers and the Rams each received five comp picks and Philadelphia four.

The first comp pick goes to the Jaguars, No. 96 overall at the end of Round 3.

The formula has never been fully revealed for these picks beyond losing players in quality and quantity during free agency. The league takes into account salary, playing time and postseason honors for the players lost.

Also, now teams can gain special comp picks in Round 3 if they hire a minority member as head coach or primary football executive.
