Bears Could Steal Key Packers’ Piece In NFL Free Agency
Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers’ remarkable performance this season has exceeded all expectations. However, with Jordan Love emerging as the team’s primary playmaker, the necessity of retaining a player like AJ Dillon for the upcoming seasons is questionable.

Certainly, there were certain players who made costly errors during the past season, and one prime example is Anders Carlson, whose missed kick against the San Francisco 49ers led to the Packers’ elimination from contention.

Notably, AJ Dillon experienced a decline in his performance this season. Besides missing the Packers’ final two games due to thumb and neck injuries, the running back saw his yards per carry average drop to 3.4, marking the lowest point in his career.

Nonetheless, Dillon’s age of 25 still positions him as a valuable asset for the Packers, especially if they intend to trade him for draft picks or another player to bolster the roster in the future.

Dillon’s value could serve as a valuable bargaining chip for Green Bay in the upcoming offseason. According to NFL analyst Maurice Jones-Drew, Dillon could still be a valuable contributor to another team in the league.

“Still, when Dillon’s healthy, I think he can provide a team with a hard-nosed, physical running back to wear down opposing defenses late in the season. That’s why I’ve paired him with Chicago, where he could join Khalil Herbert in the backfield and produce in cold-weather games.”

Furthermore, there’s the potential scenario of Justin Fields leaving in 2024, which could lead to a rookie quarterback taking the helm of the Chicago Bears’ offense. In such a situation, a seasoned running back like Dillon could prove to be a significant asset for Chicago.

While nothing in the NFL is set in stone, and the offseason is a time of uncertainty and change, one thing is certain: AJ Dillon will undoubtedly be an attractive prospect for any team willing to invest in his services next season.

Seeing him sign with the Bears would be brutal for Packers’ fans. But, it’s something that Chicago has been known to do of late.
