Baker Mayfield gives next-level praise to Bucs WR Mike Evans

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has played with some incredibly talented players throughout his NFL career. But from the comments he made recently about Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans, you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who's received the level of praise from Mayfield that the 29-year-old wide receiver did recently.

During an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio, Mayfield was asked about the receivers on the Buccaneers, and more specifically, Evans. His response didn't disappoint, and after first showing some love to a few other receivers, he offered a glowing review of the four-time Pro Bowler.

"Mike's unlike anybody else I've ever seen, truly. He does things that people shouldn't be able to do ... I didn't [realize] until I got here—he's 6'5, all of 6'5, and he can run, truly can run," Mayfield told SiriusXM NFL Radio. "Once he gets his strides going, it's impressive to watch. And just little nuances in the routes of getting in blind spots and knowing how to beat zone coverage, finding the void—he's got a lot of great tendencies, that's why he's been able to do it so consistently."

Evans has been the pillar of consistency throughout his NFL career, playing in at least 15 games in each season aside from one year when he suited up for 13 in 2019. Regardless of the number of games played, Evans has surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark in every single season while pulling in at least 67 passes every year. He's also had eight or more touchdowns in six of his nine seasons played and fell below six touchdowns just twice, with both occurrences happening during his first four years in the NFL.

If Mayfield is named the starting quarterback, it wouldn't be surprising to see Evans have a big year across every statistical category. And for what it's worth, the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft looked impressive during his start in the team's first preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mayfield completed 8-of-9 passes for 63 yards and one touchdown in limited action, a promising first showing in his competition for the No. 1 QB job with Kyle Trask.
