Andy Dalton wants Cowboys offense 'exactly how' Dak Prescott had it

Former Cincinnati Bengals starting quarterback and current Dallas Cowboys backup Andy Dalton found himself thrust into a difficult and emotional situation after Dak Prescott suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle in last Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

The 32-year-old "Red Rifle" answered the call, completing nine-of-11 passes for 111 yards and helping the Cowboys rally from behind to beat Big Blue 37-34. While the offense is now Dalton's to command, he hopes to maintain its productivity.

"We don't see things changing much. I feel like we can just run this offense," Dalton told reporters on Friday, per Todd Archer of ESPN. "I've been in a lot of different systems and kind of been through it all, so I like everything that we're doing, and my job is to keep this thing exactly how Dak had it. Dak was playing really well, and we don't feel like we want there to be any drop-off since he's not going to be in there."

Dalton added:

"Obviously, I've been used to starting. I mean for the last nine years, so my role is a little different the first five games being behind Dak, but now it's like getting back to basically how it was for me. And so I know how to prepare. I've got a routine that I've been used to that I've done that I feel like has worked really well for me. It's not really a whole lot new that I'm trying to figure out. I've got the experience of doing this for a while."

Prescott will serve his first weekend as an injured spectator as the NFL leader in passing yards (1,856), completions (151), attempts (222) and passing yards per game (371.2). Dalton was a Most Valuable Player candidate in 2015 when he tallied 3,250 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a 106.2 passer rating.
