Ameer Abdullah Compares Raiders Offense To Last Year
USA TODAY Sports

Raiders Ameer Abdullah is entering his tenth season as a veteran running back in the NFL.

Last season was Ameer Abdullah's first season with Silver and Black. He was mainly on the Raiders' special team unit. He finished the season playing all 17 games and rushing for only 20 yards on four attempts.

Since Ameer Abdullah is a veteran, he brings veteran leadership to the Raiders' running back room and special teams unit. He plans to continue to be on the Raiders' special teams unit again this upcoming season.

Ameer Abdullah had the opportunity to share with the media where the Raiders offense is in this year's 2023 training camp compared to last year's 2022 training camp.

"Definitely a lot further along from a cerebral standpoint. We understand concepts a lot better. We understand why guys are going to be in a certain place and why we need to fit off that properly. I think anytime you're building an offense, that's the most important -- getting everybody on the same page of knowing what everyone's doing. First year coming in, we always focus on like: 'I'm just gonna do my job,' but now understanding like: 'OK, if you get this coverage, we may change this this way, and this is why, so I need to make sure I play it this way,' allows you to put your own wrinkles on your own job titles, but also to play with a little bit more of a cerebral instinct."

Since there will be a new quarterback under Jimmy Garoppolo under center and is a comparison from last year's camp to last year's training camp, Ameer Abdullah also shared his thoughts on new quarterback Jimmy Garopollo and their chemistry together.

"Man, it's been good. He's very communicative of what he likes from a route standpoint to the backfield to the receivers. He's the guy who's played a lot of ball, been in this system before, so you see him just settling back in."

With only a few more weeks until the Raiders kick off their 2023-24 NFL season, it will be worth noting to see the differences in this year's offense compared to last year's.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
