Alvin Kamara expected to be suspended after meeting with Roger Goodell

Alvin Kamara is meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sometime Wednesday. No matter what happens, the Saints running back will be suspended.

This is according to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport, who said the key to how long Kamara will miss depends on the meeting at league headquarters. Kamara was involved with a fight at a Las Vegas hotel/casino in the leadup to the 2022 Pro Bowl in Las Vegas.

As part of the plea deal, Alvin Kamara accepted a punishment of 30 hours of community service. A judge ordered him to pay $105,196.17 in restitution to the victim, Darnell Greene. The money is to pay for Greene’s medical bills. He suffered an eye injury during the fight.

In addition, Greene’s attorney announced that his client had settled a $10 million suit against Kamara out of court.

Alvin Kamara agreed to plea deal before training camp started

Alvin Kamara agreed to the plea deal late last month, days before his trial was scheduled to start in Clark County. In February, a Vegas grand jury indicted the Saints running back for assault from charges initially filed in February 2022. Chris Lammons, who recently signed with the Colts, also was charged in the fight. Kamara and Lammons were former teammates with the Saints.

Kamara, the former Tennessee football star, initially pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit battery (a misdemeanor). And he pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of substantial bodily injury.

On Tuesday, the NFL issued a statement, saying: “We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review.”

The Saints also prepared for a possible suspension. The team signed former Lions running back Jamaal Williams to a free-agent contract. Williams led the NFL last season in rushing touchdowns. Kamara is a cornerstone of the Saints offense. He’s the second highest-paid running back in the NFL because of his ability to run the ball and catch it. He also tied the NFL record by scoring six touchdowns in a single game.
