This weekend the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 35-7. There were a couple of 49ers top players in this game that truly stood out. Overall, this was a great team win on all sides of the ball. The team even did better than expected, defeating Tom Brady with Brock Purdy at quarterback. Here were the 49ers top players in the win against the Bucs.

49ers Top Players: George Odum

49ers safety George Odum is a special teams player but deserves all the love. In this game, Odum only had four tackles, three of them being solo, according to ESPN. Those were his only statistics this game, but he made a larger impact than it comes off.

Odum’s tackles came against the Bucs’ punt returner for big plays. If it were not for Odum, the Tampa Bay offense would have had a much better field position. Instead, he kept them behind the 25. The 49ers’ defense dominated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but if it were not for Odum, the Bucs would have had a much better field position.

Following Odum’s big stops, the 49ers defense was able to force the Tampa Bay offense to punt early. This resulted in the 49ers offense gaining decent field position on their drives. Odum was one of the 49ers top players against the Bucs, and if he can keep it up, the already dominant 49ers can get a great boost on their Special Teams as well.

49ers Top Players: Brock Purdy

The San Francisco 49ers current starting quarterback Brock Purdy had himself a day. Purdy becomes the first quarterback to beat Tom Brady during his first NFL start. The young quarterback had to step in for a dominant team fighting for a Super Bowl and truly held his own. Purdy earned himself a spot as one of the 49ers top players against Tampa Bay.

Purdy had a total of 16 completions out of 21 pass attempts for 185 yards and three touchdowns, according to ESPN. His first passing touchdown was to running back Christian McCaffrey for 27 yards in the first half of the game. He also had a pass to wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk for 32 yards to end the half. Those two passes alone would make Purdy one of the 49ers top players of this game, but his third touchdown was due to him rushing the ball when no one was open during the first half of the game.

Purdy’s ability to find the man open while running out of the pocket was impressive to watch. This was a game where no one knew what to truly expect, and the young rookie quarterback put on a show. After the game, Shanahan did state purdy had an oblique injury, but it was okay for him to stay in the game. Purdy did not finish the game solely because of the score and the team began to pull starters.

49ers Top Players: Dre Greenlaw

Last week, linebacker Dre Greenlaw scored a touchdown off of a fumble recovery against the Miami Dolphins. This week, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, that energy did not leave. Greenlaw was all over the field and was one of the 49ers top players.

Against Tampa Bay, Greenlaw had a total of 15 tackles, ten of which were solo, according to ESPN. Greenlaw also caught an interception against Tom Brady. This pick was one of two interceptions that the 49ers defense had in the game. This was Greenlaw’s first interception of the season and he was sure to get it signed by Tom Brady after the game. The other interception was from Tashaun Gipson at the start of the second half.

Greenlaw has always been a player that was great at stopping the run, and with Brady having to settle for short throws, Greenlaw was there. The Buccaneers were only able to score one touchdown throughout the game, and the 49ers defense once again demonstrated why they are the best in the league. With Greenlaw playing how he did, he was one of the 49ers top players against Tampa Bay.

The San Francisco 49ers will have to rest up this week quickly. The team will travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks on Thursday. If the 49ers win on Thursday Night Football, they will clinch the NFC West. Be sure to watch these 49ers top players against the Seahawks, to see if they can do it again.
