Dee Ford missed nearly all of last season due to injury, but 49ers general manager John Lynch said that the pass rusher's health was progressing well and that Ford may be ready to go for the start of the upcoming season.
"Well, Dee's doing well," Lynch said. "With that type of injury, you don't want to get too high or too low and I think he's really in a good place. He's working. He's been here every day. He's working extremely hard. It's encouraging to look out my window and see things progress, but I think we'll leave it at that."
This is good news compared to what Lynch said in January, as he sounded much less confident that Ford would be healthy enough to play Week 1. Of course, there is still a lot of time between now and September, but at the very least, it sounds like Ford being healthy for the season is a real possibility.
Ford was acquired by the 49ers in a trade with the Chiefs in 2019 but has only played 12 games in two seasons for San Francisco due to injury, including missing all but one game last season after being placed on Injured Reserve.
