49ers Defender Calls Out A Questionable Fine
Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

San Francisco 49ers safety George Odum cannot understand the violation bestowed on him by the NFL.

He shared on Twitter the letter he received from the league regarding the said infraction.

The letter reads, “Specifically, your pants failed to cover the knee area. Rule 5, Section 4, Article 3, Item (4) of the 2022 Official Playing Rules of the National Football League states that pants must be worn over the entire knee area; pants shortened or rolled up to meet the stockings above are prohibited.”

He received a $5,000 fine for the infraction.

The ruling makes sense because unprotected knees can lead to injuries that can derail careers.

However, Odum questioned the sanction by saying, “So I got fined 5k.. yeah The NFL something else’s. Talking about my knees NOT covered. Where?”

The Central Arkansas alumnus contested the alleged violation by sharing a picture of him during their preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings.

The image shows that he covered his knees, making the infraction more dubious.

The way he’s speaking should indicate that he will contest the fine.

A Quick Glance At Odum’s NFL Career

After failing to hear his name called in the 2018 NFL Draft, he joined the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent.

He played for the Colts for four seasons before signing a three-year deal with the 49ers this offseason.

Odum was a First-Team All-Pro member in 2020 when he had 21 solo tackles and one forced fumble.

As of the 2021 season, Odum has 150 tackles, four forced fumbles, four passes defended, and two interceptions.

Odum will be joining a 49ers defense that has safeties Jimmie Ward, Talanoa Hufanga, Tarvarius Moore, Tayler Hawkins, and Tashaun Gipson Sr.

San Francisco reached the NFC Championship Game last season but lost to eventual Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams.
