Zach Collins suffers devastating paper cut

You see a lot of questionable injury reports from tanking teams at the end of the season. Zach Collins' latest injury is an all-timer.

Collins plays for the San Antonio Spurs, who are locked in a race to the bottom with the Houston Rockets for the league's second-worst record. After San Antonio miraculously or accidentally beat the Kings in overtime Sunday, with Collins scoring 16 points, they're taking no chances. They're shutting down their big man for Tuesday's game against the Suns.

From what we can gather, Collins suffered a paper cut on the pinky finger of his left hand. It's not clear what gave him the cut. Travel brochures for Cancun? A wine list from oenophile Gregg Popovich? A media kit for Victor Wembanyama, who the Spurs hope to select with the top pick?

He joins an extensive injury report from San Antonio that includes three of his fellow starters: Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan. Romeo Langford and Khem Birch are also out, meaning the Spurs are likely to play three 19-year-olds heavy minutes.

But the Spurs aren't the only tanking team with an injury report that reads like the phone book. Portland already shut down Damian Lillard for the season. Now their injury report includes a whopping 12 different players. There's only six healthy ones, and three of those just joined the team.

Comparatively, the Pistons' health seems robust, with only five players on the injury report. And the Houston Rockets have only Jae'Sean Tate out with injury, a bold move that declares, "Our full-strength roster is still bad enough to lose every game."
Still, we hope Collins can bounce back from the paper cut, and the injury doesn't linger into next season.
