Writer Ranks New LA Two-Way Big As Class Of Undrafted Summer League Players
USA TODAY Sports

The Lakers search for another big man to play behind Anthony Davis continues, but the team may also have their answer already on the roster. Two-way player Colin Castleton played extremely well during his time in the NBA summer league, leading many to think that he possibly could get the role.

He averaged 13.7 points, nine rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for the Lakers. Castleton also showed off his defensive skills, blocking over one shot a game. He showed a very soft touch near the basket and could provide LA with some nice offense off the bench if given the chance.

His play during the summer games was impressive, and it could end up leading to him getting a spot in the Lakers rotation this season. The un-drafted center was a major surprise for the team, and now puts them into some real discussion.

Sam Vecenie of The Athletic was also impressed with Castleton and listed him on his positive takeaway list from the summer league.

“He was a huge part of initiating offense for the Lakers at the elbow and top of the key, showcasing real comfort as a driver and passer. Plus, he’s a mobile defender. It wouldn’t stun me if we look up in January and he’s earned backup center minutes behind Anthony Davis for the Lakers. …”

Per The Athletic

He showed tremendous passing skills for a big man, and that could help boost his value within this roster. The modern-day NBA needs bigs to be able to help on offense in a slight facilitating role, so that could be a plus for him.

If Castleton continues to develop, the Lakers would have to give him a chance. The need is there, and the skill set that he has shown is something that could provide value to the team.

The Lakers have some decisions to make, but Castleton may have helped them make one on their next big man already.
