Wizards HC Wes Unseld Jr.: Davis Bertans on track to return from injury Wednesday vs. Pelicans

With an 11-6 record , the Washington Wizards are perhaps the biggest surprise in the NBA's Eastern Conference through the first part of the 2021-2022 season. It looks like they're going to have another thing to be thankful for ahead of the Thursday holiday, as they are likely getting back a key piece of their rotation Wednesday night.

The Latvian big man is currently in his sixth NBA season and third with the Wizards. After three years with the San Antonio Spurs from 2016 to 2019, Bertrans was traded to Washington in a three-team, four-player deal prior to the 2019-2020 season.

Bertrans posted career-bests in points (15.4), rebounds (4.5), assists (1.7) and minutes per game (29.3) across 54 contests during his first season in the nation's capital, while recording a 43.4/42.4/85.2 shooting line. Bertrans' numbers dipped to 11.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 25.7 minutes per game last season as he shot a career-worst 40.4% from the field.

In seven games this season, Bertrans has averaged 6.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 16.9 minutes per contest.
